Welcome to
Shelby Congregational Methodist
A place where you can find hope, healing, and restoration through Christ.

“A church is a hospital for sinners, not a museum for saints.”
~ Abigail Van Buren
Our Mission
At Shelby Congregational Methodist Church, we are committed to serving our community and sharing the love of Christ. We believe that everyone is welcome in our church, and we strive to create a safe and inclusive space for all people.
We celebrate each other as brothers & sisters in Christ.
Our History
SCMC has a rich and fascinating history. The SCMC is currently housed in the same building that was once The Daisy Saffell Memorial Hospital from 1916 to 1954. The hospital was a refuge for the local Black community in times of segregation, where they otherwise had limited access to white-only healthcare resources. Generations were born, healed, and held within its walls.
Shelby Congregational Methodist Church was founded in 1974 as an offshoot of the First Congregational Methodist Church, Louisville, KY
Rooted in Martinsville
Shelby Congregational Methodist Church is spearheading a movement to preserve the history of Martinsville and its citizens. The Shelby Congregational Methodist Church is a place of great African heritage of historical proportion in Shelbyville. The original location of our congregation was once the only Black Hospital in the area, and many notable citizens of Martinsville were born here.
In the heart of Martinsville, our church stands as a beacon of hope. We want to be a light that brings people together and uplifts the spirit of our community.
Our Ministries
We offer a variety of ministries and programs for all ages, including youth groups, Bible studies, and outreach programs. Our ministries are designed to help our members grow in their faith and serve others in our community.
